Tom Longboat (1887–1949) was a Canadian Indigenous athlete, renowned for breaking barriers in long-distance running. Born in the Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario, he belonged to the Onondaga Nation. Longboat gained fame after winning the 1907 Boston Marathon, where he became the first Indigenous person and the first Canadian to accomplish this feat. His extraordinary speed and endurance made him a standout competitor in distance races, earning him numerous titles, including the "World’s Greatest Runner."
Throughout his career, Longboat faced significant racial prejudice, yet he remained a symbol of resilience and determination.
